Port Renfrew Marina Report June 21/12

At Port Renfrew Marina fishing has been somewhat of a up and down event. There are days when fishing for springs is quite good and others when it slows down.  This has been the pattern now for about two weeks or more. The weather has been a factor in this as it's been a colder and windier June than usual, not to mention a lot wetter! Most of the springs are in the high teens with a few in the twenties. There were a couple in the thirties as you will see below in notable catches. Halibut fishing is still very good as long as weather permits. Crabbing is also still going strong.

Over the Father's Day weekend Port Renfrew Marina hosted a small derby held by Trevor Zboyovsky of http://www.nobananas.ca/ It is called the Port Renfrew Invitational Salmon Derby with the entry fee $1000.00 a boat with 17 boats entered.  Fishing was going strong on the Sat but dropped off on the Sunday morning. There was a  good turnout considering the weather on Sat was pretty intense with heavy rain. The derby was really well received and everyone seemed to be having a great time.  There was a donation to the San Juan Hatchery also of $850.00!  Thanks to everyone who participated.  Trevors derby winners

  • First Place:  Desi Hatchard  30.15 winning   $9300.00

Port Renfrew Marina Report June11/12

For the past week fishing at Port Renfrew Marina has been good for Halibut. There have been quite a few in the 40 to 60 pound range. Crabbing has improved very much. Salmon fishing is still only fair, with most fishermen coming back with a single spring. Most of them in the teens but a few in the mid twenties. The weather has been up and down with the majority of days being calm seas but the odd one with huge swells. Port Renfrew Marina has finished (for the most part) our new boat ramp.  You will find it to be a nice improvement,  more even with some roughness for traction.

Port Renfrew Marina Report June3/12

Port Renfrew Marina has now been open for one month! We are seeing somewhat typical results for fishing for the month of May.  Halibut fishing has been and still is really good, mainly between Carmannah and Nitnat. Crabbing has really picked up and is more like past years.  Salmon fishing has been fair, the best time being at flood tide near Logan Point.  Word is there have been a few in the 30 pound range. Otherwise the average ones are still in the low teens. For anyone who may be interested in a seasonal site we do have a couple spots left.  Also for those who are coming to fish this week please be aware that the launch ramp is being resurfaced in the next couple days and you will need to launch on the gravel beside it. Four wheel drive would be an asset.  It should be ok by this coming weekend.

Our ATM and pay phone are both working! Lets hope it stays that way for the season!

Port Renfrew Marina Report May 11/12

Port Renfrew Marina has been open now for almost two weeks and it is now the deadline for any past seasonal customers to contact us regarding their site. IF you haven't you must do so immediately or risk losing it. Salmon fishing has been good but no big ones coming in. They seem to be in the 10 to 14 pound range. Halibut fishing is very good as it usually in the early part of the season and crabbing has picked up.

The ATM in the office is now working and should be good to go for the season. Sorry to say that the user fee had to be raised.  Power at the marina has gone up also due to huge cost increases over the last two years.

Lets hope that this year brings warm weather, gentle seas and great fishing for all.

Port Renfrew Marina Report May.2/12

Port Renfrew Marina is now open for the season. We got off to our usual start with phone, internet and ATM issues! It just wouldn't be the new year without those!! The phones seem to be ok, there is a long delay and occasional breaking up though. The ATM is in the process of being fixed and will likely be up and running very soon, likely in a day or so. We apologize for the inconveniences these things cause our customers and others just trying to make inquiries. Fishing at Port Renfrew is coming on, there are springs being caught but they are on the small side, 8 to 14 pounds. They have been caught mostly near Owen Point. Halibut fishing has been very good with limit catches and some on the bigger side, rough weather has been a bit of a problem some days. Crabbing is still quiet, should improve soon. The picture below is of Desi Hatchard of http://www.viciousfishcharters.com/ as mentioned in the last report of the 160 halibut (and others).

Desi 160 2012Now that the marina is open for the season it is imperative that all previous seasonal customers contact us regarding their sites and moorage in order to not loose it.
